This is a software that enables a person to communicate with the computer. The mode of conversation is scripted, that is, you use pre-defined commands and instructions. For instance if you told the computer to open a file, it responds by telling you to select the file which you would like to open.

Voice recognition is also used to refer to speech recognition. Here, the recognition system is directed to a particular speaker and tries to identify the person who is speaking and consequently, what the person is saying. Some of the applications that recognize voice/speech are; voice dialing, simple data entry, speech to text processing and call routing.
