EU rejects microsft's offer for browser decoupling

Thursday, June 4, 2009 |

Microsoft has announced that it is ready to ship an non-IE windows 7 to europe in order to satisfy antitrust policy of EU and in response to the case filed by opera, norwegian browser company.

But EU and opera have rejected the offer saying that it is not enough as a non-IE windows 7 can be released at the same price as an IE windows 7 which would result in people buying the IE windows 7(This was what microsoft did while releasing xp coupling with media player).

EU requires that microsoft release windows 7 with options requiring the users to choose which browsers he needs to install or release windows with a host of browsers installed in it.

Microsoft needs IE installed in windows to survive in the browser market.Though firefox is gaining popularity and with chrome making rapid inroads,IE is the one widely used cause it is coming as a default browser with windows. So i guess microsoft will be finding some way or the another to sell IE along with windows.
